There are different CV formats. Depending on the focus and level of experience you might choose one of these:
- Chronological
- This is the most common, easy to read and write. It shows your most recent experience first and is good for demonstrating continuity.
- Functional
- This CV format focuses on functions performed that relate to the job being sought.
- Targeted
- The focus here is looking forwards and stresses what you can achieve for a company. It takes precedence over what you have done.
- CV Alternative
- A letter substituting a formal CV. Used mainly where people have a special situation that takes some explaining.
My personal favourite is the chronological, although depending on a clients situation will consider the best approach required.
